Story
John Allen died in Belgium, aged 31. Son of Frederick Joe Allen and Olive Allen (nee Short) of 4 George Street, Salisbury. His brothers Sidney Charles and Frederick James Allen also fell. The Broadstone Church Magazine, August 1915 reported; "The Allen family, well known in Creekmoor and Waterloo, has been called upon to suffer a succession of heavy blows. Three of the sons were killed in the early stages of the war, one of whom has his place in our "Roll of Honour", [JR Allen] the others not being parishioners; a fourth son was wounded and has just returned to the front." John"s father, according to the census of 1881 and 91, was a labourer who was born in Corfe Mullen. John"s mother, was born in Lytchett Minster. They had moved from Lytchett Minster to Creekmoor by 1891, but were not found on the 1901 census. The family had six sons and one daughter. Frederick, George, Thomas, Sidney, John, Joseph, and Elizabeth. Their father died on July 10th 1915. (Taken from Broadstone"s War Memorials, by Jill Floyd) He was the husband of N.
