Story
In 1911 Jesse was living with his parents, Jesse and Hannah, in Pound Street and was working as a fisherman. In 1917, in a report in The Western Gazette, Jesse is listed as a conscientous objector. He had previously applied for exemption from military service on these grounds. Now the tribunal was informed that he had told the Committee on Work of National Importance that he could not do the work that they had offered him as it involved the manufacture of munitions. He was instead working for a curriers firm.
