Story
Edgar Freke died in Belgium aged 27 years. In 1911 he was living in Somerset with his parents and sister. He was a 21 year old railway porter, born in Bath. "Soldiers Died in the Great War" gives his enlistment place as Cowes, Isle of Wight and his residence as Upper Parkstone. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission states he was the "Son of Charles and Rachel Freke of 93 Albert Rd, Upper Parkstone, Dorset". This area on the Western Front was the scene of the Third Battle of Ypres. Also known as the Battle of Passchendaele, it was one of the major battles of the First World War.
