His age given as 28, George Hann"s case appeared before the Dorset County Appeal Tribunal in August 1916. The following is an account taken from the Bouremouth Guardian on 2nd September 1916: "George Hann (28), a conscientious objector, employed by Messrs. Finch and Co. at Holton Heath, who had appealed against the decsion of the Poole Rural Tribunal, did no appear, and it transpired that his employers had refused him permission to attend. "What right and authority have Messrs. Finch and Co. to oppose a man with a statutory right to come here?" asked the Chairman. "We are not going to put up with treatment of this kind. It is a dangerous thing for them to do." The case was adjourned, the Chairman remarking, "I hope Messers. Finch and Co. will re-consider the matter in the meantime. It is a really dangerous policy."
